Jaguar Land Rover testa cão robô para detetar problemas na linha de montagem

Similar to what is already happening with BMW, Jaguar Land Rover has just implemented a robot dog from Boston Dynamics at its production facility in Coventry. This robot is not used for vehicle production but rather to detect potential operational issues and wear in equipment.

The new robot, known as Rover, can operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and only requires breaks to charge its 50 V battery.

The robot dog’s job involves following several predefined routes through the electric vehicle testing facility. Equipped with a set of sensors and artificial intelligence, it can open doors, climb stairs, and navigate busy areas, all while continuously measuring and inspecting all the machines used for vehicle assembly.

Jaguar Land Rover states that using the robot eliminates the risk of human error in carrying out these inspections. It also frees up time for engineers to analyze Rover’s results for business and maintenance forecasting or to carry out repairs. Boston Dynamics’ creation can even detect gas leaks that are undetectable by humans and uses thermal sensors to quickly assess battery temperatures.

The British brand states that the Rover eliminates the risk of human error in conducting inspections and detecting failures in machines, while also freeing engineers for a more careful analysis of the results revealed by the robot dog, as well as for maintenance work.

“The key to JLR’s Reimagine strategy is a continuous collaboration with the brightest minds in the industry, developing advanced robotic solutions that work in harmony with our employees for the unwavering benefit of our customers”, said Gonzalo Ejarque-Rinaldini, head of automation and robotics at JLR.
