Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that it will invest around €600 million to modernize the Halewood factory in England, preparing the facility for the production of electric vehicles in the coming years.
Inaugurated in 1963 to manufacture the Ford Anglia, the factory will now be expanded to support the production of SUVs based on the new EMA platform.
In addition to new and modern assembly lines, the Halewood factory will be equipped with 750 robots, systems for calibrating advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), machines with laser alignment technologies, and control management systems to supervise production using cloud-based technology.
The investment announced by JLR is part of the “Reimagine” strategy, which includes the electrification of all JLR brands by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality across the entire supply chain, products, and operations by 2039.
“For more than two decades, Halewood has been the heart and soul of JLR thanks to the production of vehicles like the Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport. Halewood will be our first fully electric production center”, said Barbara Bergmeier, Executive Director of Industrial Operations at JLR.
