Jade Avedisian Shatters Glass Ceiling: First Female Winner in CARS Tour History

At Charlotte Motor Speedway, 76 years ago, Sara Christian left an indelible mark in the annals of NASCAR history. As the first woman to compete in a NASCAR race, she inspired a generation of female drivers with her 7 Cup Series starts and commendable finishes. Now, fast-forward to 2024, and another female driver is making waves in the world of motor racing, albeit unbeknownst to the audience.

Jade Avedisian, the rising star from Wilson Motorsports, emerged from a highly skilled field of drivers to etch her name in history. Navigating her No. 24 Toyota with an impressive precision that belied her years, Avedisian became the first female driver to clinch victory in a CARS Tour race, a feat unprecedented in the Tour’s 11-year history.

Throughout the 100-lap event, Avedisian demonstrated a remarkable tenacity, constantly vying for superior positions. Her deftness on the track not only highlighted her individual skills but also cast a favorable light on Toyota’s development program. She confidently stated that her car was the speediest on the track, lauding her team’s efforts to maintain a steady pace.

Avedisian’s victory was not without drama. The final laps saw an intense battle between her, Tristan McKee, and T.J. DeCaire, with the latter making a daring three-wide pass with just four laps to go. Despite DeCaire crossing the finish line first, a post-race technical inspection for left-side weight infractions saw him disqualified, and Avedisian declared the winner.

This twist of fate echoed a similar incident involving Parker Kligerman at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season opener at Daytona, where Corey Heim was declared the winner due to a technical glitch. In both cases, the initial victor was dethroned due to a technical violation, underscoring the importance of precision in motorsport.

However, Avedisian’s victory is more than just an individual achievement. It is a watershed moment in the history of CARS Tour. Despite the series featuring several accomplished female drivers, Avedisian is the first to taste victory. Her triumph transcends the Late Model Stock, Super Late Model, and Pro Late Model divisions, cementing her place in the sport’s history.

Avedisian’s journey to this historic win is a testament to her resilience and passion for the sport. Unlike her contemporaries who honed their skills on asphalt, she cut her teeth on dirt tracks, making a name for herself in the challenging world of midget racing. This transition from dirt track to asphalt racing has been seamless, thanks to her unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and her technical approach to the craft.

With the CARS Tour returning to action at Cordele Motor Speedway soon, all eyes will be on Avedisian as she aims to replicate her success. After making history in a rather unconventional way, she now has the chance to take the checkered flag in the traditional manner—by being the first to cross the finish line. As 2025 unfolds, Jade Avedisian is undoubtedly a driver to keep an eye on, one who has undeniably etched her name in the history books.
