Jack Doohan’s Alpine Future in Question Amid Colapinto Threat, but Aussie Remains Defiant: “I look forward to cementing my place in F1”

Jack Doohan’s long-standing role as Alpine’s third driver finally paid off when Esteban Ocon was announced to be leaving for Haas, earning the Australian a full-time seat alongside Pierre Gasly for 2025.

However, with Ocon’s abrupt departure before the conclusion of the 2024 F1 season—missing the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix—Doohan got an early taste of racing at the pinnacle of motorsport, finishing in 15th place.

Colapinto’s Arrival Sparks Doubt

Doohan’s future at Alpine quickly became uncertain when the team signed Franco Colapinto as their reserve driver. The Argentine’s impressive performances when replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams in mid-2024 raised eyebrows, leading to reports that Alpine executive advisor Flavio Briatore could replace Doohan with Colapinto if the Aussie fails to impress within his first six races.

Doohan Unfazed by Pressure

Despite the mounting speculation, Doohan remains confident and undeterred. Speaking to Sky Sports F1 at the Autosport Awards, he dismissed concerns over his position.

“I’m very motivated,” Doohan asserted. “I look forward, to be honest, to just getting on track and doing the work with my hands and my feet and steering that car as best as I can.”

A Dream Realized

Reflecting on his transition to a full-time F1 driver, the 22-year-old expressed his excitement.

“It’s a super special time for me. I’m stoked to be a part of it,” he said. “I’ve been watching these guys ever since I was a little boy, especially Lewis [Hamilton].”

As one of six rookies on the 2025 grid, Doohan acknowledged the weight of the opportunity ahead of him.

“To be one of the 20 drivers on the grid is super special, and I look forward to cementing my place here for the future.”

Alpine Team Principal Offers Support

Addressing speculation about Doohan’s tenure, Alpine team principal Oliver Oakes reinforced the team’s commitment to giving him a fair shot.

With high stakes and fierce competition, the first few races of 2025 could define Doohan’s career. Can he silence the doubters and secure his future with Alpine, or will Colapinto seize his chance? The battle for the seat is well and truly on.
