Jack Doohan Unfazed by Speculation: Four Reserve Drivers Eye Alpine Seat Amid Contract Uncertainty

Despite the growing speculation surrounding his position at Alpine, Australian driver Jack Doohan remains unperturbed. Rumors have been swirling that Doohan’s seat is under threat, with four reserve drivers, including the promising Argentinean Franco Colapinto, eager to replace him. However, Doohan has quashed these rumors, stating that he has a contract with Alpine for “at least this year, if not more”.

The off-season has been rife with conjecture about Doohan’s future at Alpine, fueled by allegations that his days are numbered. The speculation was further intensified by Flavio Briatore, the executive director of Alpine, who reportedly signed Colapinto in January, after expressing interest in the “fast” driver.

According to the rumour mill, Doohan has only a few races to prove his mettle to Briatore. Former F1 driver, Ralf Schumacher, even went as far as to suggest that Doohan’s first race in Australia for F1 2025 could potentially be his last if he doesn’t deliver. Schumacher voiced his thoughts on the Backstage Boxengasse Podcast, stating that if Doohan doesn’t perform well, his stint at Alpine could be short-lived.

Doohan’s standing took another hit when Red Bull motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, gave him a “C” rating and expressed doubts about him completing the season. However, the Australian rookie seems to be taking these comments in his stride.

Throughout the pre-season, Doohan has had to field numerous questions about his future in F1. When asked about his contract and the looming possibility of his home Grand Prix being his only one, Doohan responded with a chuckle, dismissing the rumours and reiterating his contract status.

The Australian driver also highlighted that there are four reserve drivers, not just Colapinto, potentially vying for his seat. But in typical Doohan fashion, he is not letting this rattle him. In fact, he is choosing to embrace it, stating that he will relish every race as if it’s his last.

Alpine’s roster of reserve drivers includes Colapinto, Paul Aron, Ryo Hirakawa, and Kush Maini. But Doohan remains unfazed by the competition, insisting that pressure is not an issue for him. He is confident in his preparation for his maiden campaign, stating he is mentally and physically fit, and has laid the groundwork to put his best foot forward.

Doohan’s debut in the driver’s seat came in Abu Dhabi last year when he replaced Esteban Ocon at the season finale. Reflecting on that experience, Doohan said it was crucial in helping him understand how a race weekend flows, making him feel more comfortable and relaxed for future races.

In conclusion, despite the buzz and uncertainty surrounding his future at Alpine, Jack Doohan remains focused on his performance on the track. He is undeterred by the pressure and competition, and is determined to make the most of his time in the driver’s seat. Whatever the future holds, one thing is clear – Doohan is committed to enjoying every moment of his journey in F1.
