Jack Doohan poised for stunning F1 comeback: will Super Formula ignite his racing career?

Jack Doohan on the Brink of F1 Comeback: The 2027 Dream Looms Large!

In a thrilling twist for motorsport enthusiasts, Jack Doohan is racing towards a potential return to Formula 1 that could see him in a prime position for the 2027 season! After a tumultuous exit from Alpine, where his career took a hit due to premature promotion and swift dismissal, Doohan is poised to reignite his ambitions in the high-octane world of F1.

This talented Australian driver is set to compete in the prestigious Super Formula series this season, taking the seat that he previously tested. However, the real buzz centers around his imminent role as reserve driver for Haas, a move that could solidify his path back to the F1 grid.

Doohan’s departure from Alpine was more than just a formality; it marked the end of a chapter that had long been anticipated. Though the split had been widely reported, it wasn’t until last week that the ink dried on the paperwork. The concern was palpable—would this exit hinder his chances for the upcoming season? But sources close to the situation assured that Alpine wouldn’t block Doohan from pursuing other opportunities, paving the way for his much-needed competitive seat time in Japan.

After nearly a year without racing, this Super Formula stint is crucial for Doohan. It’s designed to keep him sharp and ready for any unexpected openings in F1, particularly with Haas showing interest in bringing him on board. Discussions are reportedly progressing positively, and at just 22, Doohan’s career is still very much in its early stages.

Despite a challenging seven-grand prix stint where he failed to score points, Doohan showcased his potential during testing, proving he could keep pace with established drivers like Pierre Gasly. His connection with Toyota through Super Formula aligns perfectly with Haas’s growing partnership with the automotive giant, making this transition a strategic move for all parties involved.

Jack’s family has deep ties to Japan; his father, Mick, dominated the motorcycle scene in the 90s with five world championships under Honda’s banner. This history not only fuels Jack’s ambition but also strengthens his position in Super Formula, known for its competitiveness and technical freedom that far exceeds that of Formula 2 or Formula 3.

Doohan’s past experience with Alpine, where he served as an unofficial reserve driver after Oscar Piastri’s shock departure, gives him a leg up over many competitors in the race for reserve roles. However, a significant hurdle remains—his ineligibility to participate in Friday practice sessions, where teams are mandated to showcase rookie drivers. This could impact his visibility, although Ryo Hirakawa is currently Toyota’s first choice for those slots.

But fear not! The connection with Toyota could also lead to an opportunity in the World Endurance Championship if the F1 dream doesn’t materialize as hoped. The overarching strategy appears to be a focus on securing a reserve role with Haas for 2026, building towards a coveted race seat in 2027.

The stakes are high, and Haas is well aware of the shifting dynamics in their driver lineup. With Esteban Ocon maintaining his competitive edge and rookie Oliver Bearman impressing, there’s potential for upheaval. If Bearman, linked with Ferrari, moves to Maranello, a seat at Haas could very well open up for Doohan.

In the midst of this whirlwind, it’s clear that Jack Doohan is strategically positioning himself for a monumental comeback. Competing in Japan, staying sharp, and nurturing his relationship with Toyota could be the stepping stones back to the F1 grid or even into the WEC. Although it’s not yet a done deal, all the signs point to a thrilling opportunity for Doohan and a promising future in motorsport.

Stay tuned, F1 fans! The race for 2027 is heating up, and Jack Doohan’s name is one to watch as the drama unfolds!
