F1 Dreams Dashed: Jack Doohan Faces Another Crushing Setback as Racing Future Hangs in the Balance

In a shocking turn of events, former Formula 1 star Jack Doohan finds himself grappling with yet another devastating blow to his racing aspirations. The Australian driver, once a hopeful rookie in the fast-paced world of F1, has seen a coveted full-time seat slip through his fingers, leaving him reeling and searching for his next move.

Doohan’s rollercoaster ride took a nosedive after being let go as an Alpine development driver at the conclusion of the 2025 season. Just a year ago, the 23-year-old was on the brink of his rookie season, eagerly preparing to partner with Pierre Gasly at Alpine. However, what began with high hopes quickly turned into disappointment as his tenure lasted a mere six races before being unceremoniously replaced by Franco Colapinto—a driver who failed to score a single point for the remainder of the season.

The setback didn’t stop there. Following his premature exit from the Alpine setup, Doohan was handed an opportunity to prove himself in Super Formula with Kondo Racing during post-season testing at the iconic Suzuka Circuit. Unfortunately, the results were far from encouraging, as he crashed out at the same corner on all three days of the test, raising questions about his readiness to compete at that level.

Despite the rocky past, whispers of a full-time seat in Super Formula for the 2026 season had begun to circulate, with Kondo Racing seen as a potential lifeline. However, in a shocking twist, the team opted to sign Japanese racer Ukyo Sasahara instead, leaving Doohan’s prospects hanging by a thread. This decision solidified the 23-driver lineup for Super Formula, effectively closing the door on Doohan’s ambitions for the upcoming season.

Sources close to the situation revealed that a significant hurdle in securing his Super Formula seat was Doohan’s unawareness regarding the necessity to partially fund his position. This misstep reportedly led to a breakdown in negotiations, further complicating his already precarious situation.

With the 2026 racing season fast approaching, the clock is ticking for Jack Doohan. Just as he was poised for a potential comeback, with links to a reserve driver role at Haas—thanks to Kondo’s partnership with Toyota—his racing future now appears bleak. The tantalizing possibility of reigniting his career through a title fight in Super Formula, much like the successes seen by Liam Lawson and Ayumu Iwasa, has vanished into thin air.

As the motorsport world watches, Doohan is left to navigate a landscape of dwindling options, desperately seeking a new path to redemption in a fiercely competitive arena. Will he rise from the ashes of disappointment, or will this latest setback mark the end of his racing dreams? Only time will tell.
