The Italian government is negotiating with the Chinese company Chery Auto to build a factory in Italy, in an attempt to increase automobile production in the country.
According to “Reuters”, the government of Rome wants to attract another major car manufacturer, in addition to Settlantis, and increase the national production of automobiles to 1.3 million vehicles per year, compared to less than 800,000 registered in 2023.
Italian Industry Minister Adolfo Urso has already revealed that the government wants a second manufacturer to add about 300,000 vehicles to national production.
If the negotiations are successful, Chery will be among the first Chinese car manufacturers to set up production units in Europe, thereby increasing competition with European brands, especially in the electric vehicle segment.
