Israel Debuts World’s First Fully Automatic Howitzer

Revolutionary Artillery: Israel’s Fully Automatic 155mm Howitzer

Israel has unveiled the Roem/Sigma, the world’s first fully automatic 155mm self-propelled howitzer, developed by Elbit Systems. This cutting-edge artillery system will replace the aging M109s in the Israeli Artillery Corps. Brigadier General Yair Natans highlighted its advanced capabilities, including a firing range of up to 40 kilometers and the ability to switch from travel to fire mode in just 60 seconds. The Roem/Sigma can fire at a rate of eight rounds per minute thanks to its automatic loading system, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.

The howitzer is part of Israel’s broader strategy to modernize its military capabilities with state-of-the-art technology. The Roem/Sigma’s automation reduces the crew size required to operate it, thereby increasing crew safety and reducing human error. It is also equipped with advanced targeting systems that ensure high precision and effectiveness on the battlefield.

The development of the Roem/Sigma marks a significant milestone in military technology, setting a new standard for artillery systems worldwide. It demonstrates Israel’s commitment to maintaining a technological edge in defense and its ability to innovate in response to evolving threats.
