Isack Hadjar to join Red Bull Racing: Yuki Tsunoda’s F1 future hangs in the balance

Red Bull Racing is on the brink of a seismic shift as it gears up to unveil its driver lineup for the 2026 Formula 1 season, and the stakes couldn’t be higher for Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese driver, who has been a part of the Red Bull family, now finds himself teetering on the edge of oblivion as rumors swirl about his potential ousting in favor of rising star Isack Hadjar.

With Red Bull reportedly finalizing a deal with Honda to keep their V6 turbo-hybrid powertrains operational for testing, Tsunoda might just cling to a flickering hope of remaining in the F1 spotlight. However, insiders suggest that his days as a full-time driver could be numbered. According to sources, Hadjar is set to partner with Max Verstappen, while Arvid Lindblad is poised for a significant promotion to the Racing Bulls team. This leaves Tsunoda in a precarious position facing stiff competition from Liam Lawson for the last available seat.

Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf has hinted that Lawson is likely to be retained, further diminishing Tsunoda’s chances for a race seat in 2026. The tension was palpable during the recent Qatar race weekend when Tsunoda cryptically mentioned, “I knew something I couldn’t say yet,” leaving fans and analysts alike speculating about his uncertain future.

The backdrop of Tsunoda’s predicament is amplified by Red Bull’s strategic partnership with Ford, which complicates Honda’s marketing involvement with the driver. As Red Bull embarks on a new chapter with its own power unit, the implications for Tsunoda’s career could be dire. The FIA’s recent regulations mandating engine manufacturers to supply engines for TPC testing, without a price cap, adds another layer of complexity. This means that engine suppliers can set exorbitant prices, and while teams like Red Bull have the financial might to absorb these costs, no one wants to bear the full brunt.

Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s senior advisor, expressed optimism about ongoing negotiations with Honda, stating, “We’ve always had a good and fair relationship with Honda. We had a meeting on Friday, and I think we’re on the right track to resolving this issue.” However, the reality remains that a successful TPC deal could still see Tsunoda relegated to a reserve role, potentially limiting his opportunities in the competitive arena of Formula 1.

As Red Bull aims to solidify its testing program, the implications for Tsunoda are profound. With limited regular test and filming days available, securing a deal with Honda is pivotal not just for the team’s immediate needs but also for nurturing future talent from its junior program. For Tsunoda, the clock is ticking, and the prospect of a reserve role looms large, casting a long shadow over his aspirations of continuing in this elite motorsport domain.

In the high-stakes world of Formula 1, every decision counts. Will Red Bull choose to gamble on Tsunoda, or will they usher in a new era with Hadjar and Lawson? As the announcement date approaches, the tension is mounting, and fans are left on the edge of their seats, waiting to see how this dramatic saga will unfold. The fate of Yuki Tsunoda hangs in the balance, and only time will tell if he can turn the tide in his favor.
