Esteban Ocon, the Haas driver, sheds light on Lewis Hamilton’s struggles at Ferrari, drawing parallels between their experiences in adapting to different F1 cars from Mercedes and Ferrari. As Hamilton faces challenges transitioning to the Ferrari machinery, Ocon, who previously served as a reserve driver for Mercedes, understands the complexities involved in adjusting to new car philosophies in Formula 1.

Hamilton’s move from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025 was highly anticipated, marking a significant shift in his career. However, with Hamilton yet to outperform his teammate Charles Leclerc and grappling with qualifying issues, his stint at Ferrari has been lackluster so far. Ocon, currently competing for the Ferrari-customer team Haas, empathizes with Hamilton’s struggle, emphasizing the nuances in driving styles required by cars from different manufacturers.

In a recent media interaction before Round 6 in Miami, Ocon acknowledged the difficulties Hamilton is facing and expressed confidence in Hamilton’s ability to adapt swiftly to the new challenges. Ocon highlighted the importance of experience in navigating such transitions in F1, noting that familiarity with a particular car model does not always guarantee a seamless adjustment process when switching teams.

Moreover, Ocon touched upon the demanding nature of the latest ground effect F1 cars introduced in 2022, emphasizing the challenges posed by their stiff handling and tire behavior. He noted that these cars leave little room for diverse driving styles, requiring drivers to adhere to a specific approach for optimal performance on the track.

As F1 gears up for the 2026 season with revamped regulations featuring lighter cars and sustainable biofuels, the current season serves as a testing ground for drivers like Hamilton and Ocon to hone their skills and adapt to the evolving dynamics of the sport. Despite the initial hurdles, both drivers are expected to leverage their experience and talent to excel in the competitive world of Formula 1.
