As a high-performance professional sport, Formula 1 revolves around results and performance on the track, but consistency and regularity don’t always receive the most attention – instead, it’s the most recent results. Something that makes Fernando Alonso compare the premier class to football.
Quoted by the website PlanetF1.com, the Spaniard spoke about the Aston Martin season, which started well before the qualifications deteriorated. He emphasized that there has been more consistency than it may seem, as well as a growth in the project that has been noticed in recent years:
– I think it has been a more consistent season than the results may show. I believe we have always balanced the highs and lows. We have always been very focused on the car’s performance and tried to improve as a team. Two years ago, this organization had 250 people, and now we are just a few points away from the top teams in the constructors’ championship and have already tasted the podium a few times this year. We also have a new factory, many new people who have joined the team.’
Despite admitting that it is the most recent result that stays “in the memory,” Alonso assured that the season as a whole is a source of pride: ‘I know that we are becoming more and more like football here, and only the last result seems to count, but we cannot forget where we came from and what the project is, so I am very proud of this season so far’.
