In the midst of the ongoing frenzy in the MotoGP rider market, which has mainly revolved around Ducati’s search for a factory rider alongside Pecco Bagnaia, little attention has been given to the fate of their current top satellite team, Pramac.
Speculations suggest that Pramac will settle for the remaining rider after the musical chairs game within the factory team, or potentially move to Yamaha for the 2025 season.
However, it is possible that Pramac, and not the factory team, holds the key to the whole process, as Ducati is considering using six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez as a bargaining chip to solve all their problems.
Possible solutions to Ducati’s dilemma have been widely discussed: either Jorge Martin becomes the factory rider, leaving Enea Bastianini and Marquez to find alternatives or accept satellite machines at Ducati, or Marquez is chosen to partner with Bagnaia, which would likely lead Martin to seek a seat at Aprilia.
However, it is clear that Ducati is eager to keep all three riders in their ranks, which is not surprising considering their impressive performances this year.
Each rider has their own demands for this to happen. Martin is focused on securing a place in the factory team, while Marquez has made it clear that he will not settle for a second season on outdated machines, although he would be content in a satellite team with a high-spec bike.
It is this condition that presents an opportunity for Ducati to have the best of both worlds by using Marquez as a trump card.
Currently, it seems that Pramac is about to join Yamaha. This would not only decrease Ducati’s dominance in collecting data from their eight machines on the track but also leave two fewer seats for Marquez, Martin, Bastianini, and the already signed rookie Fermin Aldeguer.
It is unknown if the prospect of Aldeguer and Bastianini would be enough to convince Pramac to stay, especially considering the generous offer believed to have been made by Yamaha to try to attract them.
However, the possibility of having MotoGP legend Marc Marquez on their bike would certainly be tempting for Pramac and their sponsors, generating significant hype.
This is the strategy that Ducati is reportedly employing to satisfy the desires of both Martin and Marquez, while offering enough incentives for Pramac to stay with the team.
Currently, it seems that progress in this scenario is causing delays in any official announcements about Ducati’s lineup for 2025.
However, Ducati may be making promises it cannot keep, as it appears that Marquez has no intention of leaving the Gresini camp unless absolutely necessary.
Satisfied in his new satellite team, managed by his own family, Marquez is reluctant to make another team change for the 2025 season, especially since it would only be the second in a 12-year career in the premier class. A move to Pramac would only happen if he had no other choice.
However, if Ducati’s factory lineup is complete and Ducati fulfills its contractual commitment to Pramac by providing them with a full set of 2025 bikes, logically this would make them unavailable to Gresini (and thus to Marquez if he does not join Pramac).
