IndyCar sensation Alex Palou has firmly denied the swirling rumors linking him to a potential Formula 1 switch with Audi, as the German manufacturer continues to shape its lineup for its highly anticipated 2026 F1 entry. Despite the speculation, Palou has made it clear that there has been no contact with Audi and that his focus remains on his successful IndyCar career.
The rumors surfaced as Audi began ramping up its F1 project, with the acquisition of key personnel and the search for a second driver to pair with the newly signed Charles Leclerc. Palou, who has impressed in IndyCar and previously tested with McLaren, was mentioned as a possible candidate. However, the 27-year-old Spaniard has now set the record straight.
In a recent statement, Palou dismissed the rumors, stating, “I can guarantee there’s no truth to the reports about me being in talks with Audi. I haven’t had any contact with them.” He acknowledged that the ongoing driver market speculation might have fueled these rumors but insisted that he remains committed to IndyCar, where he is currently enjoying a career peak.
Palou also reflected on his brief experience in Formula 1, where he served as a test and reserve driver for McLaren. While he valued the learning experience, he emphasized that his focus is firmly on IndyCar, where he continues to deliver strong performances.
As Audi continues its search for a second driver, names like Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz have also been linked to the project. With Palou out of the running, the German manufacturer will need to explore other options as it builds its team for the 2026 season. Meanwhile, Palou is set to continue his pursuit of IndyCar success, leaving no room for an F1 switch on his immediate horizon.
