Christian Lundgaard expressed his opinions on the early arrival of the IndyCar hybrid propulsion system, which is scheduled to be introduced sometime after the Indianapolis 500. Lundgaard, who currently races for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team, belongs to one of the teams that did not have the opportunity to test the hybrid system on track. While the bigger teams in the series had several days to develop and test the components, drivers who have not yet experienced the new format are uncertain about its potential impact. Lundgaard, speaking before the first race of the 2024 season, expressed doubts about the introduction of the hybrid system mid-season. He believes that teams already racing with the current configuration have an advantage in terms of understanding the balance and performance of the car, which could lead to an uneven playing field. Lundgaard also highlighted the disparity in testing opportunities, using Callum Ilott as an example, who had more mileage in the car during the offseason due to testing with the hybrid system. Lundgaard feels that the situation seems disorganized, suggesting that the expectation is that the hybrid system may not be ready.
