The Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT) warned about fraudulent schemes for obtaining a driver’s license through websites, social networks, and communication applications such as WhatsApp, which promise legal driving authorization in exchange for a sum of money.
“These driver’s licenses are fake and have no legal validity, not appearing in the IMT records, which are accessible to traffic enforcement authorities”, emphasizes the IMT in a statement.
The same entity adds that “to hold a driver’s license, citizens must be residents in Portugal, have the minimum age required for each vehicle category, attend theoretical and practical training provided by a driving school licensed by this Institute, and pass both the theoretical and practical tests successfully”.
In addition, in the case of exchanging a foreign driving license, foreign citizens residing in Portugal must make this exchange at the IMT services.
“When you detect or come across suspicious messages indicating a fraudulent scheme for obtaining a driver’s license, please report it to the criminal investigation authorities”, adds the IMT note.
“We emphasize that the payment of any amounts to obtain a fake driver’s license, as well as the issuance of these licenses, are crimes punishable by law,” concluded the statement.
