IMSA Unveils Provisional Entry List for Rolex 24 at Daytona: Record GTP Field Set to Ignite 2024 Season

The No. 7 Porsche 963 to win the Rolex 24 at Daytona at Daytona International Speedway, Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024.

The stage is set for the 63rd running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, with IMSA revealing a provisional entry list that promises thrilling competition in the 2024 season opener. Featuring 61 entries across four classes, the twice-around-the-clock classic is poised to deliver a spectacle of speed, endurance, and innovation.

GTP Class Hits a Record High

The headline grabber is the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class, boasting a record 12 entries, the largest since the class’s inception in 2023. Cadillac leads the charge with three full-season cars, joined by newcomers Proton Competition and the debuting Lamborghini SC63, marking its first appearance at Daytona.

  • Proton’s Porsche 963 will feature the experienced duo of Gianmaria Bruni and Neel Jani.
  • JDC-Miller Motorsports adds to Porsche’s strength with Tijmen van der Helm and Bryce Aron behind the wheel.
  • Lamborghini’s ambitious entry is bolstered by top-tier talent, including Mirko Bortolotti, Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat, and Edoardo Mortara driving for Iron Lynx.

LMP2: A Strong Field of 12

The LMP2 class also sees a dozen entries, blending familiar faces and new contenders:

  • CrowdStrike Racing by APR returns with a strong line-up of George Kurtz, Malthe Jakobsen, Toby Sowery, and Colton Herta.
  • Newcomer Pratt Miller Motorsports will field Pietro Fittipaldi, James Roe, Chris Cumming, and Callum Ilott in its campaign.
  • PECOM Racing resurrects the spirit of AF Corse with drivers Luis Perez Companc, Nicklas Nielsen, and Matthieu Vaxiviere.

GTD PRO: Star-Studded Grid

With 15 entries, the GTD PRO class promises to deliver a fierce battle:

  • Proton Competition’s Porsche 911 GT3 R brings together Claudio Schiavoni, Matteo Cressoni, Richard Lietz, and Thomas Priening.
  • 75 Express (formerly SunEnergy1) features a powerhouse trio of Kenny Habul, Mikael Grenier, and Maro Engel.
  • Notably absent, however, is Ferrari stalwart Risi Competizione, leaving fans speculating about its future participation.

GTD Class: Packed with Variety

The GTD class fields an impressive 22 cars, making it the largest category on the grid. While the list features numerous TBD entries, standout inclusions are:

  • Gradient Racing debuts the Ford Mustang GT3, driven by Joey Hand, marking his return after parting ways with Ford Multimatic Motorsports.
  • Nine Ferrari 296 GT3s will be fielded, including entries from Cetilar Racing and AF Corse.
  • Misha Goikhberg continues with Forte Racing’s Lamborghini, while Dan Knox is the sole listed driver for Lone Star Racing.

Notable Omissions and Surprises

While the grid is brimming with top-tier talent and cutting-edge machinery, several TBD slots and notable absences spark intrigue. Key gaps include unconfirmed driver line-ups for teams like Vasser Sullivan Racing, Paul Miller Racing, and Triarsi Racing. With the Roar Before the 24 just weeks away, these TBDs will undoubtedly be finalized soon.

Mark Your Calendars

The Rolex 24 action kicks off with the Roar Before the 24 test sessions from January 17-19, setting the stage for the main event on January 23-26 at Daytona International Speedway. This year’s race promises to be one for the ages, with historic entries, fierce rivalries, and the return of endurance racing’s biggest names.

The Final Countdown

As IMSA prepares to launch its 2024 campaign, all eyes are on Daytona. With record entries in GTP, a diverse mix of manufacturers, and an electric atmosphere building, the Rolex 24 is ready to showcase why it remains one of motorsport’s crown jewels. Stay tuned as more announcements fill the gaps in what promises to be a breathtaking season opener!
