Alpine faces a challenging path in the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Even before the season began, Alpine lost their key technical team to the newly renamed VCARB. However, as the season got underway, it became clear that the French team was the slowest on the grid. As a result, the renowned designer chose to leave the team due to their slow start in the 2024 season.
Last year, the French team hoped to secure one of the top three spots in the constructors’ championship, but failed to achieve that goal and only managed to claim two podiums during the season.
In the current campaign, it has been a nightmare for the French team. They occupied the last positions on the grid in the Bahrain GP and finished in 17th and 18th places. Furthermore, the team’s renowned designer left to join another team.
The 65-year-old designer will join the Silverstone base after Alpine’s disastrous start. This reunion comes after more than a decade apart. Unfortunately, with all the departures, Enstone faces a sad state of affairs. They need to quickly find solutions to get the team back on track.
In the Bahrain GP, he finished in a disappointing 18th place, just behind his teammate. Following this disappointing result, the Frenchman lowered his expectations for the upcoming races.
Speaking to the press, Gasly stated that he does not expect miraculous solutions to make the A524 faster overnight. He is realistic and believes that a few more races will likely have the same result as Bahrain.
Therefore, Gasly and his teammate eagerly await an update package to reduce the weight of the A524. It is speculated that the car is currently 11 kilograms above the minimum weight. Fans and paddock now await a turnaround from the team, as the Enstone-based team is only a shadow of what it once was.
