Iberdrola and bp pulse have announced the creation of a company that plans to create a public network of fast and ultra-fast charging stations, which will install 5,000 charging points in Portugal and Spain by 2025 and 11,700 by 2030, all powered by 100% renewable energy.
With a planned investment of one billion euros, the new company will start its activity with more than 300 fast charging points (>50kW) and ultra-fast charging points (>150kW) in operation for electric vehicles.
“With this, the two companies aim to facilitate access for all citizens to a reliable high-speed charging infrastructure and thus help overcome one of the main barriers to the advancement of electric vehicles,” said the joint statement from Iberdrola and bp pulse.
The joint venture represents a close collaboration between Iberdrola and bp pulse, leveraging their strengths and resources to offer public charging experiences in Spain and Portugal, with the aim of accelerating the transition to more sustainable transportation.
It should be noted that bp already has a network of 1,300 service stations, most of which can be used as charging centers by the new company in the Iberian Peninsula.
“Our goal is to promote the definitive advancement of the use of electric vehicles with 100% renewable energy, thereby contributing to accelerating the energy transition,” said Pablo Pirles, CEO of the new company.
