Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell reaches record of 10 million kilometers traveled in Switzerland

Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell atingem recorde de 10 milhões de quilómetros percorridos na Suíça

The Hyundai Motor Company’s XCIENT Fuel Cell electric trucks, which are integrated into fleets in Switzerland, recently surpassed an accumulated driving distance of 10 million kilometers – a testament to the long-term reliability of hydrogen fuel cell technology.

This achievement was reached in just three years and eight months since the XCIENT Fuel Cell began fleet service operations in Switzerland in October 2020, and is seen by the South Korean brand as a significant milestone for the heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell electric truck, with the XCIENT Fuel Cell surpassing the remarkable accumulated driving distance of 10 million kilometers.

Currently, a total of 48 XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks are in operation in Switzerland, using two 90 kW hydrogen fuel cell systems (for a total power of 180 kW) and a 350 kW electric motor, allowing for a maximum range of over 400 kilometers.

Compared to a fleet of diesel trucks, which would emit approximately 6,300 tons of carbon dioxide over an accumulated distance of 10 million kilometers, the XCIENT Fuel Cell electric truck allows for a significant reduction in carbon emissions.

A Hyundai estimates that this reduction is equivalent to the amount of carbon absorbed annually by 700,000 pine trees, or the creation of a pine forest with 508 hectares (5 million square meters).

All XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks operating in Switzerland use only “green hydrogen,” with no carbon emissions during the production process, which contributes to the creation of a sustainable hydrogen value chain in Europe.

Hyundai also revealed that it is not only supplying XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks in Switzerland, but also actively supporting and participating in the creation of a hydrogen commercial ecosystem, which includes the entire production value chain, charging infrastructure, and hydrogen consumption.
