Hyundai Gears Up for a Groundbreaking WRC2 Revolution in 2027!

In a thrilling announcement that has motorsport enthusiasts buzzing with excitement, Hyundai is contemplating the launch of a brand-new WRC2 vehicle, poised to shake up the rally racing scene amidst the impending 2027 regulatory changes. This bold move, hinted at by Hyundai’s motorsport chief, Cyril Abiteboul, signals a significant commitment to the World Rally Championship’s future.

Abiteboul has made it crystal clear: if Hyundai is to continue its WRC campaign into 2027, the team will officially utilize its i20 N Rally2 as the cornerstone of this ambitious project. “The target will be always improving our products, show our commitment,” he stated, emphasizing Hyundai’s relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence.

Benoit Nogier, the mastermind behind customer racing at Hyundai, elaborated on their game plan during a discussion with DirtFish. “We can re-homologate a complete car based on the current street car. We have this opportunity and we still want to improve the car,” he explained. This declaration of intent showcases Hyundai’s readiness to embrace change and push the boundaries of what is possible in rally racing.

The clock is ticking as the team prepares for 2027, with Nogier teasing that significant developmental strides are already in the pipeline. “Even if it’s not confirmed at 100%, we will probably launch the development of big evolutions ready for 2027,” he said, igniting speculation about what these enhancements could entail.

However, there’s a catch – budgetary constraints remain a pressing concern, with Nogier admitting, “The only objection is the budget.” As the team consolidates its finances for the upcoming 2026 season, this financial barrier stands as the final hurdle to launching the much-anticipated 2027 evolution. Nevertheless, optimism runs high within the ranks, with Nogier asserting, “I think we can be really optimistic.”

The rally community is on the edge of its seat, eagerly anticipating Hyundai’s next moves as they chart a course into the future of WRC2 racing. With a commitment to improvement and an innovative spirit, Hyundai is set to redefine what’s possible on the rally stage. Stay tuned as we keep our eyes peeled for the latest updates on this electrifying development!
