Hyundai Racing Sensation: Abiteboul Calls for More Realism from Fourmaux
Hyundai’s rising star, Adrien Fourmaux, is feeling the heat as Cyril Abiteboul, the head honcho at Hyundai Motorsport, calls for a reality check from the talented driver. Since joining Hyundai from M-Sport Ford, Fourmaux has shown glimpses of brilliance, but Abiteboul believes he needs to dial back his eagerness to make a mark in the World Rally Championship.
Adrien Fourmaux’s journey with Hyundai kicked off impressively with a stellar performance at the Rallye Hivernal du Dévoluy, where he outshone his competitors. However, subsequent rallies in Sweden and Safari Rally Kenya proved to be challenging for the young driver. In Sweden, a minor mishap with his helmet and a subsequent snowbank incident cost him valuable time, while Safari Rally Kenya saw him plagued by mechanical issues and a puncture.
While Fourmaux’s speed on the track is undeniable, Abiteboul emphasizes the need for the driver to exercise patience and composure during setbacks. Abiteboul stated, “Adrien needs to learn to become a bit more realistic about certain circumstances.” The Hyundai team principal believes that Fourmaux’s eagerness to recover quickly from setbacks might be hindering his overall performance.
Despite showcasing immense potential and securing vital points in Kenya, Fourmaux’s tendency to push hard in challenging situations has raised concerns within the Hyundai camp. Abiteboul points out that Fourmaux’s impatience was evident during his first Rally1 season in 2022 and remains an area for improvement.
While Fourmaux’s talent behind the wheel is unquestionable, Abiteboul’s call for a more measured approach highlights the young driver’s room for growth. As the Hyundai Racing team looks ahead to future challenges in the World Rally Championship, all eyes will be on Adrien Fourmaux to see if he can strike the right balance between speed and strategy to fulfill his potential as a top-tier driver.
