A North American startup, Figure, is developing a robot that will be used at BMW in Spartanburg. The company has now revealed images of its first humanoid robot being trained to perform tasks in an automotive production unit.
The video shows the robot, named 01 by Figure, transporting various components and placing them on a platform, a task that the company says is performed with great precision. The video even shows the robot making corrections to the positioning of the components when necessary.
Although the tasks performed by 01 in the video are very basic, this type of repetitive and physically demanding work is seen as ideal for humanoid robots with Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as this Figure project, which learns to improve the various tasks performed and may even later perform similar tasks without the need to be programmed for it.
In addition, 01 also uses natural language AI models, allowing its human colleagues to interact with the robots and orally transmit instructions.
Remember that BMW already uses a robot dog to detect problems in the production of the brand’s factory in the United Kingdom, which produces 400,000 BMW and Mini TwinPower turbo engines per year.
