Formula 1 Makes Bold Decision Regarding 2026 Live Car Launch Event

In a groundbreaking move, Formula 1 has made a definitive choice regarding the hosting of a live car launch event in 2026 following the controversial F175 celebration earlier this year. The F175 event, which marked the 75th anniversary of the sport, saw all 10 F1 teams revealing their 2025 liveries live on stage at the O2 arena in London, captivating a massive audience of 7.5 million viewers across various platforms.

However, the event was not without its share of drama, as Red Bull’s Christian Horner and Max Verstappen faced a hostile crowd reception during the unveiling of the RB21, with reports indicating that the experience left Horner uninterested in participating in similar events in the future. Despite this, F1 has decided against a repeat of the live launch for the 2026 season, citing reasons unrelated to the booing controversy.

The commercial rights holder, Formula One Management (FOM), has revealed that the decision to forgo a live launch in 2026 was made after discussions with teams and stakeholders. FOM clarified that the 2025 event was a one-time celebration of the sport’s 75th anniversary and that hosting such an event annually would not align with their vision. Instead, F1 intends to reserve live launches for commemorating other significant milestones in the sport’s history.

Moreover, the upcoming regulation changes in 2026 played a role in the abandonment of the live launch event, with concerns raised about the potential distraction it could pose for teams amidst their preparations for the new cars and power units. All 11 teams are gearing up for a series of three-day tests in Bahrain and Barcelona at the beginning of the 2026 season, with the first test set to take place in Spain at the end of January, coinciding with the typical timing of a launch event.

Despite the decision to skip a live launch in 2026, FOM has not ruled out the possibility of such an event in the future. The sport remains open to exploring new venues globally to host grand unveilings, keeping fans on the edge of their seats for what the future may hold in the world of Formula 1.
