The dominance of Red Bull in the 2024 Formula 1 season has decreased compared to their performances in 2023 and 2022. McLaren and Ferrari have caught up to them and now pose a regular challenge.

Since the race in Miami, Red Bull has faced difficulties, with Max Verstappen having a tough win in Imola and a loss in Monaco. However, they have bounced back and secured victory in the Canadian Grand Prix, although it required significant effort.

In Canada, Mercedes seemed to fulfill their promises of improving their W15 car. Despite George Russell securing pole position, he finished third, while Lewis Hamilton finished fourth.

James Allison, technical director of Mercedes, stated that Red Bull’s updates actually worsened the performance of their car. He stated, “It seems like their update was a step backwards. I hope this setback hampers their progress.”

Allison emphasized the challenges of losing confidence in one’s tools, as it leads to wasted time and hinders progress. He added, “Time is crucial, and losing it is detrimental to your success.”

Following their important victory in Canada, Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull, responded to Allison’s comments. He joked, “Even with our degraded car, we still managed to outperform their updated car.”

Horner acknowledged that the recent races have been challenging, but Red Bull has still won two out of the last three races. He highlighted the need to address the deficiencies of their car and improve performance, especially at certain circuits later in the year, such as Singapore, which may pose challenges.

Horner admitted that, despite winning six out of the nine races, Red Bull will have to stay on top of their game to maintain their lead. He expected fierce competition from Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes, who have shown better performance in the recent race.

Mercedes’ form has been inconsistent, with moments of speed during practice followed by disappointing performances in qualifying and the race. Although they secured pole position and a podium finish in Canada, Horner questioned whether their form was genuine or a one-off occurrence.

Currently, Red Bull is leading the 2024 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship, while Mercedes sits in fourth place with only 124 points compared to Red Bull’s 301.
