Horner downplayed Verstappen’s comment, attributing it to the intensity of the race. He emphasized that Verstappen was supporting the team and showing a positive attitude towards the situation. The pit stop was necessary to assess the extent of the problem, and it was discovered that the rear brake cover was missing, causing the fire. The team prioritized extinguishing the fire and ensuring Verstappen’s safety.
The Australian Grand Prix marked only the second time in the last 21 races that Verstappen did not emerge victorious. However, Horner remains confident in Verstappen’s ability to bounce back, citing his previous dominant performance in Suzuka. Verstappen’s engine was replaced before qualifying in Melbourne as a precautionary measure after sustaining damage during the first practice session. Horner clarified that the engine can still be used in future races.
