After the rumors at the beginning of the week, now comes the confirmation. The alliance between Honda and Nissan will now include Mitsubishi.
The three companies have now signed a memorandum of understanding to discuss the best way to work on the joint development of 100% electric vehicles and software.
Mitsubishi’s entry into this partnership was seen as quite likely, especially since Nissan has a 34% stake in the brand.
“Discussions between Nissan and Honda about a possible partnership have progressed, and we have decided to participate in this alliance. Collaboration with partners is essential in today’s automotive industry, which is undergoing rapid changes due to technological innovations such as electrification. We believe that we can discover new possibilities in a variety of areas through collaboration between the three companies.”, said Takao Kato, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors.
Recall that in March, Honda and Nissan had announced that they were working together to further accelerate initiatives aimed at achieving carbon neutrality and a society with zero traffic accidents.
In this sense, Mitsubishi Motors’ entry into this alliance will not only add new knowledge and strengths, but also provide more synergies that can only be generated by the three companies, as well as new business opportunities.
