Honda has decided to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first hybrid model in Europe, the Insight, with the production of a silver Civic.
The high-gloss paint of the bodywork resulted from a unique batch of silver paint created by the famous artist and color champion, Stuart Semple. The inventor of the world’s shiniest silver, along with the pinkest pink, the goldest gold, and the blackest black, Semple provided the paint for the unique anniversary edition through his studio, Culture Hustle.
Each of these unique colors was created with specific specifications, and in the case of the silver to celebrate the hybrid silver jubilee, it used 64% real silver flakes and pigments mixed in an acrylic suspension. The paint can be smoothly applied to all surfaces and gives the appearance of solid gold or silver metals, allowing artists to create works that are a true representation of these colors.
After being mixed, the paint was delivered to the custom manufacturing specialists at “The Syrup Room” in Bournemouth, UK, to be applied to the Civic.
Over the course of three days, the specialized spray team cleaned and prepared the car’s body in conditions carefully controlled by the weather, before applying several layers of specialized protective and removable paint. Finally, high-precision spray equipment was used to apply the final layers of Silveriest Silver to create the unique commemorative Civic.
“Honda’s expertise in hybrids is unmatched in the industry. In 1999, we began building the world’s most fuel-efficient car, the revolutionary Insight, which was the first gasoline-electric hybrid car in Europe. Today, we offer a range of fully electrified models, most of which feature our innovative e:HEV powertrain. For these reasons, we marked 25 years of hybrid technology with the ultimate silver anniversary gift, the most silver Civic. And doesn’t it look fantastic?”, said Nik Pearson from Honda Motor Europe.
