Honda Racing Corporation president, Koji Watanabe, has declared that Yuki Tsunoda’s future in Formula 1 with Red Bull is solely up to the young Japanese driver himself. Amidst a split with Red Bull, Honda is embarking on a new venture with Aston Martin in the F1 World Championship.
Tsunoda, a product of Honda’s young driver program, has finally been promoted to Red Bull’s main team after a lackluster performance by Liam Lawson. The pressure is on Tsunoda to prove himself and show that he can compete at the level of his teammate, Max Verstappen.
Despite Honda’s new partnership with Aston Martin starting in 2026, Watanabe emphasized that they will not intervene in Tsunoda’s career with Red Bull. The 24-year-old earned his promotion based on merit, and it will be his performance on the track that determines his future with the team.
Watanabe made it clear that Honda had no involvement in the decision to swap drivers with Lawson and that they have a good relationship with Red Bull Team Principal, Christian Horner. Tsunoda’s first race with Red Bull will be at Suzuka, his and Honda’s home Grand Prix, adding extra pressure but also excitement for the young driver.
The stage is set for Tsunoda to shine, with expectations high from both Red Bull and Honda. As he faces this unique challenge, Tsunoda expressed his determination to enjoy the moment and make the most of this rare opportunity.
With Honda stepping back and allowing Tsunoda to control his destiny in F1, all eyes will be on the rising star as he navigates the high-stakes world of Formula 1 racing.
