Committed to expanding its range of 100% electric models with an SUV concept, Honda is developing a new compact integrated into the Series 0, composed of next-generation models that adhere to the principles of “Thin, Light, and Intelligent,” which already includes the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV, revealed at CES in Las Vegas in January of this year. The third member of the family, presented at the Tokyo Mobility Show, is the Honda 0 α (alpha), a prototype of a compact electric SUV, clearly inspired by the Honda 0 SUV but slightly smaller – it promises efficiency and lightness and will be launched in markets such as Japan and India starting in 2027.

The style is quite similar to that of the electric models presented earlier this year, featuring a disruptive image that stands out for its high and very upright rear section, with the Japanese brand explaining that the 0 α is being developed “as an SUV that will integrate perfectly into both urban and natural environments. The goal was to create a vehicle that would serve both first-time buyers of an electric vehicle and those who prioritize a smart lifestyle. The model name ‘α’ embodies ‘first’ and ‘beginning’, reflecting Honda’s aspiration to be accessible to many people”, explained Taku Fukui, Design Director of the brand, who received assistance from Park Sungjin in developing the model’s image. Among the visual highlights are the panels (which the brand refers to as “screens”) at the front and rear: at the front, traditionally separate elements – such as the headlights, the charging port, and the illuminated emblem – are grouped onto a panel; while at the rear, the U-shaped lighting combines lighting functions, helping to define the vehicle’s own proportions.
Positioned as the entry model in the Series 0, the “alpha” is equipped with technologies that respect the development approach of that range of electric vehicles. It is not known if Europe will be one of its markets, but it is expected to also be part of the launch plans for this SUV.
