HMD Motorsports has bolstered its Indy NXT roster with the addition of 22-year-old Australian driver Tommy Smith. After competing in the FIA Formula 3 championship for the past two seasons, Smith is set to make his debut in the American series for the 2025 season.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new challenge, Smith stated, “I am excited to compete in America and am up for the challenge. Watching the final Indy NXT race in Nashville with HMD gave me a taste of how competitive the series is. Racing on ovals will be a new experience, but I’m eager to get behind the wheel during post-season testing and start preparing with the team.”

Smith will be teaming up with familiar faces, including former F3 teammate Caio Collet, who clinched the 2024 NXT Rookie of the Year title, as well as Josh Pierson, who is set for another season with HMD. The team has hinted that more driver announcements are forthcoming.

“It’s great to officially welcome Tommy to HMD Motorsports,” said team president Mike Maurini. “We’re thrilled to have him on board. After working closely with his management team over the past few months and meeting with Tommy in Nashville, we’re confident that he and his team will be a valuable addition to our program.”
