With the publication of the entry list for the 2025 Formula 1 season, the racing numbers rookies will use next season have been revealed. Two of these numbers were previously used by champions.

Gabriel Bortoleto will debut with Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber and has chosen #5. This number was used by Sebastian Vettel from 2015 to 2022 during his seasons with Ferrari and Aston Martin, as well as by Emerson Fittipaldi, Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, and Niki Lauda. In those earlier cases, the numbers were assigned based on championship standings rather than personal choice.

Jack Doohan, debuting with Alpine, has selected #7, which accompanied Kimi Räikkönen from 2014 to 2021 at Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. Historically, Alain Prost, Mansell, Mika Häkkinen, Nico Rosberg, Piquet, and Schumacher, among others, also used this number when it was assigned rather than chosen.

As for the other 2025 rookies, Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) will use #12, last seen with Felipe Nasr in 2016. It was also used by Ayrton Senna, Gilles Villeneuve, Lauda, and Mansell. Oliver Bearman (Haas/Ferrari) has opted for #87, a completely new number in Formula 1.
