The Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera is the third model in the company’s range of electric hypercars, which was unveiled in June 2024 to mark the brand’s 120th anniversary.

Equipped with 4 electric motors producing 275 hp each, giving a total power of 1114 hp and a torque of 1160 Nm, the Sagrera accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds. The motors are permanent magnet and axial flow, connected in series: two on the left side and two on the right.

Powering the four electric motors is a new 103 kWh battery, developed and manufactured 100% at Hispano Suiza’s facilities in Montmeló, Barcelona. It features new state-of-the-art lithium-ion cell packs: in total, it has 15 modules of 24 cells, amounting to 360 cells, which the brand claims show an improvement in energy density, allowing more energy to be stored in the same volume, resulting in a range of 480 km in the WLTP cycle.

The production of this exclusive hypercar is carried out by hand at the company’s headquarters in Barcelona, Spain, in a meticulous process that combines innovation and design.

To showcase the meticulous work that goes into the production of each unit of the Carmen Sagrera, Hispano Suiza presented the five fundamental steps for creating the model, which incorporate some of the new evolutions that make this car a true work of art on wheels.

Phase 1: Pre-assembly of components and battery production

As it is a highly customizable model that makes each unit unique, in line with the “hyperlux” concept coined by the brand, the design team maintains regular contact with the client to tailor the car to their tastes and keep them informed of production progress.

The initial steps consist of the pre-assembly of various sets, such as the front and rear subframes, the four suspension sets, the axle shafts, and the interior plate. The front subframe has the steering installed, while the rear has the support for the inverters and the propulsion system (motors and reducer, which will have been previously tested and calibrated on the dynamometer).

In parallel, the company’s technical team builds the 103 kWh battery, which is produced internally and makes its debut in the Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera. Thanks to this, this model has a range of up to 480 kilometers. At the same time, another team produces the high-voltage wiring.

Phase 2: Chassis Assembly

The production of the hypercar continues with the installation of the different body elements onto the monocoque, all made of carbon fiber. This process is done by hand, with extreme care for even the smallest details, ensuring that each piece fits perfectly. Some interior elements are also installed.

Phase 3: Painting, Upholstery, and Rolling Chassis Assembly

After the pre-adjustment and adjustment of all parts have been completed, the painting process begins, in the color specification previously designated by the customer, among the virtually infinite possibilities offered by the brand, in a manual work as well.

On this assembly, the wiring, cooling system, steering, supports, and bracket are installed. After that, the front and rear subframes, and all components of the rolling chassis: suspensions, brakes, and wheels are added.

At the same time, the interior coverings began, using high-quality materials such as Alcantara or leather, which will be cut and sewn by hand, following the owner’s preferences.

Phase 4: Final Assembly and Adjustment

With the chassis already assembled and ready to roll, the technical team focuses on the final assembly and adjustment of the interiors, which includes the technology that powers the advanced infotainment system of the hypercar, along with all the comfort systems it includes. The final assembly of the exterior components is also carried out, including the emblems and logos, with the stork as the main protagonist.

Phase 5: Final Validation and Delivery

Once built, the Carmen Sagrera is ready for delivery to the client. Approximately eight months will have passed since the start of the process. The final phase consists of validating the vehicle through a test over a few kilometers, both on the road and on the track at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit (Montmeló), located near the brand’s facilities. When it is meticulously verified that the vehicle is in perfect condition and that all systems are functioning correctly, the delivery to the client will take place, allowing them to enjoy a supreme driving experience.
