Helmut Marko revela primeira opção da Red Bull para formar dupla com Max Verstappen em 2025.

Sergio Perez’s contract with Red Bull will expire at the end of the 2024 season. The partnership between Red Bull Racing and Perez was established in 2021. Although Perez has served as the team’s second driver up to now, his disappointing performance last year raised the possibility of him being replaced. In light of this, Red Bull’s Motorsport Consultant, Helmut Marko, revealed the team’s intentions.

Marko, an 80-year-old consultant, disclosed that discussions are underway at Red Bull to determine the second driver for the 2025 season. However, he emphasized that the team’s primary preference is to extend Perez’s contract. There have been rumors that Perez turned down a one-year contract extension offer from the Austrian team.

Marko expressed the desire for Milton Keynes, Red Bull’s base, to finalize their driver lineup before the summer break. However, he also stated that there is no rush to make a decision. With several drivers expressing interest in joining the current world champions, Red Bull has several options to consider.

Among the candidates for Red Bull’s second seat are individuals from the Austrian family itself. One of these candidates is Daniil Kvyat, who returned to Formula 1 last season with the goal of being Max Verstappen’s partner in Milton Keynes. However, it is believed that Kvyat has been completely overlooked in favor of other drivers.

Marko dismissed these speculations and clarified that Yuki Tsunoda is also involved in negotiations with the drivers. Additionally, Marko mentioned the possibility of Tsunoda committing to a multi-year contract with certain provisions.

Undoubtedly, Sergio Perez remains the top choice for Red Bull. It may be challenging for Yuki Tsunoda to accept a subordinate role to Max Verstappen, as the Japanese driver aspires to compete for the world championship with a car capable of winning races. However, if Milton Keynes decides to support Tsunoda in the long term, he may earn a promotion.
