Helmut Marko in Response to Christian Horner’s Shocking Ouster

IMOLA, ITALY - MAY 16: Dr Helmut Marko, Team Consultant of Oracle Red Bull Racing talks with Christian Horner, Team Principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing in the garage prior to practice ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari on May 16, 2025 in Imola, Italy. Longtime Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko has spoken publicly for the first time since Christian Horner was unexpectedly dismissed as team principal and CEO. After more than twenty years of steering the organization to numerous championships, Horner learned he was no longer needed and was replaced within days by Laurent Mekies, who arrives from Ferrari.

Dr. Marko, long associated with Christian Horner and Red Bulls management, had kept a low profile after the recent reshuffle but has now publicly praised their shared history, remarking, Christian and I have collaborated succesfully for more than 20 years-in Formula 1 and before that in Formula 3000. I want to thank him for every moment of that journey.

During that time the pair oversaw the rise of two World Champions and many Grand Prix victors, embodying Red Bulls relentless push for excellence. Even when disagreements surfaced, Marko insisted the squads core spirit never wavered, insisting, Competing hard has always been-and remains-the Red Bull way.

With twelve races left in the year the team looks to defend the Drivers title under the new front office, Max Verstappen trailing leader Oscar Piastri by 69 points. A bruising fight is already shaping up for the seasons final stretch as the squad hunts every avenue needed to close the gap and claim the crown.

The motorsport community is buzzing with speculation and anticipation after this major shake-up at Red Bull. Fans and analysts watching the paddock are keen to see how these changes will influence driver performance, strategy calls, and the ongoing championship battle. With fresh dynamics and emerging rivalries now in a spotlight, the season-ending races promise drama that could rewrite many off-season forecasts.

Follow the latest news and expert commentary as Formula 1s rapidly shifting narrative unfolds on and off the track.
