HEAT TRADE TYLER HERRO FOR $160 MILLION WING: ‘MAKES SENSE’

Miami Heat Eyeing Potential Trade for Jerami Grant or Other Wing Players

Despite already making a significant move to acquire guard Terry Rozier, the Miami Heat are not ruling out further trades. According to Jared Weiss of The Athletic, a swap involving Jerami Grant and Tyler Herro, although unlikely, remains a possibility. Weiss believes that adding a wing player should be the team’s top priority before the trade deadline.

Grant, who currently plays for the Portland Trail Blazers, could be a suitable option for the Heat. He has a similar contract to Herro and can provide comparable scoring and shooting efficiency, in addition to addressing the team’s defensive needs. However, there is concern about losing Herro’s potential for growth.

A potential trade between Herro and Grant is unlikely due to their similar contracts. Grant signed a five-year, $160 million deal with the Blazers in 2023, while Herro inked a four-year, $120 million extension in 2022.

Although Grant would be a valuable addition to the Heat roster with his clutch shots and stellar defense, Herro’s offensive output is comparable. Grant has been averaging 21.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game this season, shooting 46.1% from the field and 40.3% from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Herro has been averaging 21.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, shooting 43.3% from the floor and 40.4% from three-point range.

The primary difference between the two players is age, with Grant turning 30 in March and Herro recently celebrating his 24th birthday in January. If the Heat decide not to pursue Grant, they may consider other wing players in the market.

In addition to Grant, the Heat could also be interested in Dorian Finney-Smith from the Dallas Mavericks. Betting odds suggest that Miami is a potential destination for Finney-Smith, along with the Brooklyn Nets and the Dallas Mavericks.

As the trade deadline approaches, it remains to be seen whether the Miami Heat will make any further moves to strengthen their roster.

Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith is being considered as a potential addition to the Miami Heat, according to oddsmakers and analysts. The Heat, who will need to contend with the size of teams like Boston, Philly, and Milwaukee in the Eastern Conference, may look to acquire Finney-Smith and other players from the Brooklyn Nets.

William Guillory of The Athletic believes that playing smaller guards like Tyler Herro and Terry Rozier together could be risky when opposing teams start to exploit mismatches. As a result, Guillory expects the Heat, along with other playoff contenders, to reach out to the Nets for players like Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O’Neale.

Compared to other potential trade targets, Finney-Smith offers a more affordable contract at just under $14 million per year. Although he is not as productive as other players, averaging 9.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 28.8 minutes per game, Finney-Smith could still be a valuable addition to the Heat if they are looking for a player with size at a reasonable price.
