Happy with Sanchez’s appointment, Ocon is pleased with the uncertain future of Alpine F1.

Esteban Ocon, a member of the Alpine F1 team, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s decision to bring in experienced Formula 1 designer David Sanchez as they strive to improve their performance in the 2024 season. Alpine had a difficult start to the season, with their redesigned A524 car proving to be uncompetitive and overweight. This led to the resignation of Technical Director Matt Harman and Aero Chief Dirk de Beer before the first race. In an attempt to turn things around, Alpine implemented a new triple technical structure, with Sanchez leading the team’s revised approach. Sanchez, who had previously worked with Ferrari and briefly returned to McLaren, was hired after a disagreement over his responsibilities. Ocon praised the addition of Sanchez to the team, seeing it as a sign of their commitment to improvement, while considering extending his contract. When asked about the progress Alpine is making, Ocon acknowledged that changes are being made and emphasized the team’s dissatisfaction with their current situation. He believes the team should be moving forward instead of regressing. Pierre Gasly, however, warned that the benefits of these changes may not be immediate and recognized the challenges the team is facing. He noted that while improvements are being made in various areas, they have not yet translated into on-track performance. Gasly emphasized the importance of the team’s ability to react and adjust to the problems they are facing, acknowledging that it will take time to see significant changes.
