Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, found himself in a position he’s not accustomed to – apologizing to his team. The British driver described his performance in the qualifying sessions for the Belgian Grand Prix as “unacceptable” after finishing a disappointing 16th, while his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc, secured an impressive third place.

Hamilton’s early exits during the Belgian qualifying sessions left him frustrated and embarrassed, leading him to vow to apologize to his team for his subpar performance. A track limits violation during his final lap in Q1 resulted in the deletion of his time, knocking him out in the initial stage. This came after a similarly disappointing Sprint qualifying where he could only manage the 18th fastest time, also exiting in Q1.

The seasoned driver attributed his uncharacteristic spin during Friday’s session to a new component in his Ferrari, further compounding his struggles. Despite making changes to his car, Hamilton failed to improve his performance throughout the weekend, expressing his disappointment and acknowledging the team’s hard work in trying to enhance the vehicle.

To make matters worse, Hamilton’s teammate, Charles Leclerc, excelled throughout the weekend, securing fourth in the Sprint and an impressive third-place spot on the grid for the Grand Prix. The stark contrast in their performances only added to Hamilton’s frustration and disappointment.

With rain forecasted for race day, there remains a glimmer of hope for Hamilton to turn his luck around with a strategic masterstroke, similar to Nico Hulkenberg’s surprising podium finish in Silverstone. However, Hamilton’s spirits remained low as he admitted the challenges he faced from his starting position, labeling the weekend as one to forget.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, Hamilton acknowledged the team’s efforts but hinted at the focus shifting to next year’s car, indicating a challenging season so far. Despite the setbacks, Hamilton remains determined to make the best of the situation as he navigates through a tough period in his F1 career.
