Hamilton’s Ferrari Crash Ends Leclerc’s Barcelona Test—Monegasque Left Without a Single Lap

Lewis Hamilton’s shocking crash in Barcelona has had major consequences for Ferrari’s pre-season test—forcing Charles Leclerc to miss his entire planned session.

The seven-time world champion suffered a heavy impact at Turn 12 during his second day in Ferrari’s SF-23, bringing the team’s running to an abrupt halt.

Hamilton’s Crash Wrecks Ferrari’s Test Plan

  • Hamilton’s morning session ended early after crashing heavily into the barriers, causing significant damage to the suspension and bodywork.
  • Ferrari scrambled to repair the car in time for Leclerc’s scheduled afternoon session.
  • By the time the car was rebuilt, sunset had arrived, and Ferrari had to abandon Leclerc’s run completely.

Leclerc Denied More Seat Time—Again

For Leclerc, it’s another frustrating setback.

Just last week at Fiorano, the Monegasque was limited to only 14 laps due to wet conditions. Now, thanks to Hamilton’s crash, he won’t turn a single lap in Barcelona.

Ferrari has confirmed it will not adjust its schedule to give Leclerc another session, meaning he’s done for this test.

Instead, reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi and Ferrari Academy junior Dino Beganovic will take over the SF-23 for the final day.

Beganovic’s Big Opportunity

Ferrari’s decision to run Beganovic suggests they’re preparing him for future F1 outings.

  • The Formula 3 driver needs 300km in an F1 car to secure his FIA Super License.
  • With rookie FP1 sessions now mandatory for teams in 2025, Ferrari could be lining him up for future Friday practice appearances.

What’s Next for Hamilton & Leclerc?

Ferrari’s pre-season running has already been disrupted twice—first by Fiorano’s weather, now by Hamilton’s crash.

Leclerc’s lack of testing time could hurt his early-season preparations, while Hamilton will be eager to avoid another setback in his transition to Ferrari.

Ferrari fans will be hoping this isn’t a sign of things to come in 2025—because so far, the Scuderia’s test program has been anything but smooth.
