Hamilton intrigued by the sudden loss of grip during qualifying for the Canadian GP

Lewis Hamilton, the British driver for Mercedes AMG in Formula 1, was perplexed by the sudden loss of grip he experienced during qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix. Despite driving the same car as in previous practice sessions, Hamilton found himself sliding down to seventh place, while his teammate, George Russell, secured pole position. This has been a recurring issue for Hamilton in 2024, as he struggles to replicate his strong practice performances in crucial moments. Hamilton expressed his surprise and disappointment, noting that the car had felt great throughout the weekend, but the speed seemed to disappear during qualifying. He attributed the problem to the soft tires not performing as expected and denied making any changes to his car’s setup between sessions. Russell, on the other hand, also failed to improve on his last qualifying attempt, despite using worn tires. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff admitted that they couldn’t understand why their previous pace advantage didn’t translate into a stronger performance in the final segment.
