Hamilton’s performance in Formula 1 disappoints in thrilling race

The seven-time Formula 1 champion’s performance in the practice sessions indicated that he had a chance to secure pole position in the qualifying phase. However, it was his teammate George Russell who managed to do so, leaving Hamilton in seventh place.

During the race, he found himself stuck behind Fernando Alonso for a significant amount of time, unable to overtake. Furthermore, a late battle with Russell did not work in his favor, resulting in a fourth-place finish.

Despite this, Hamilton expressed optimism about the progress made by Mercedes. In his interaction with the press, he stated, “I’m pleased that we’re making progress and there are positives to take from this weekend. However, yesterday afternoon was quite disastrous and today’s race was quite disappointing from my perspective. So, I can’t say that I’m particularly satisfied with it.”

He also acknowledged his own mistakes, saying, “Today, I could have driven better and made fewer errors. I was stuck behind Fernando Alonso, so there wasn’t much I could do in that situation. Overall, I made several mistakes throughout the weekend, but there were also many positive aspects in terms of performance. I will strive to improve in the next race.”

Meanwhile, Russell, who started in pole position and finished third, considered the race a missed opportunity. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff understood the negative sentiment expressed by both drivers in their post-race comments.

Wolff commented: “Finishing third and fourth is a positive result considering where we came from in previous races. It’s a significant improvement. However, both drivers acknowledged that there was potential for more as we could have gained one or two positions. Therefore, there is a prevailing feeling of disappointment.”

He added: “But if you had offered them third and fourth place before the weekend, they would probably have accepted.”

In the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship of 2024, Mercedes currently occupies the fourth position, behind McLaren by 88 points. Hamilton is eighth in the Drivers’ Championship with 55 points, while Russell is ahead in seventh, with a 14-point advantage.
