Hadjar se redime ao vencer corrida de destaque F2 na Austrália.

Isack Hadjar, Campos Racing pilot, celebrated his podium win after winning the featured Formula 2 race in Australia. This victory was especially satisfying for Hadjar, as he had lost a race previously due to a penalty for causing a collision. Crossing the finish line ahead of the pack at the Albert Park Circuit, Hadjar secured his second win at this venue. Paul Aron and Zane Maloney joined him on the podium.

At the start of the race, Dennis Hauger, starting from pole position, maintained the lead. However, Andrea Kimi Antonelli made a bold move at Turn 11, stealing the first position from Hauger. Maloney, the current championship leader, managed to overtake Richard Verschoor and secure third place. Pepe Marti also made a move, climbing to fifth place.

During the race, Victor Martins and Oliver Bearman made impressive gains in the field, with Martins climbing from 21st to 11th place and Bearman moving up nine positions overall. Despite Antonelli’s initial lead, Hauger managed to regain the first position on the second lap and establish a comfortable lead.

However, Hauger soon encountered difficulties with his tires, complaining of lack of grip on the soft compound. Other drivers, like Marti and Maloney, also struggled with their tires, running off track at Turn 10. Martins had a scare, but managed to keep control of his car.

As the race progressed, it became clear that the medium compound tires were the better choice. Kush Maini demonstrated this by overtaking both Maloney and Antonelli to reach second place. Shortly after Maini’s impressive maneuver, the Virtual Safety Car was deployed due to Joshua Durksen of PHM AIX Racing going off track at Turn 14.

When the race restarted, Maini took the lead from Hauger, with many drivers in the top 10 making pit stops and switching to medium compound tires. This included Hauger, as well as the Campos and Prema teams, who opted to make pit stops in succession.

But moments later, Hauger crashed into the barrier at Turn 6 on the 11th lap, causing the Safety Car to come out on track and clear the debris from his MP Motorsport car.

This interruption benefited Hadjar, who made his pit stop and emerged in seventh place, ahead of Antonelli, who was leading before making his stop.

On the restart, the Campos driver managed to increase his advantage over Antonelli by easily overtaking Taylor Barnard and Roman Stanek to protect his lead.

Paul Aron climbed the rankings and passed Antonelli at Turn 11 on lap 20, and then Maloney overtook the Italian driver to secure third place on lap 25.

As Maini, Jak Crawford, and Juan Manuel Correa entered the pits on lap 31, Hadjar regained the lead and crossed the finish line with a 4.4-second victory over Aron in second place.

The Red Bull junior driver’s victory is Campos’ first in F2 since Azerbaijan in 2019 and the first triumph for the French driver, despite the disappointment of the Sprint race.

Maloney secured another podium in third place, ahead of Antonelli and Ritomo Miyata from Rodin, who achieved another top five in his debut season in F2.

The only remaining MP Motorsport car, driven by Franco Colapinto, finished in sixth place, but the Argentinian was disqualified after the race for “not following the correct start procedure.

As a result of this decision, Rafael Villagomez, Martins, and Bearman were promoted one position, along with Crawford, who secured the final point available at Albert Park.
