Title: Oscar Piastri’s Stunning Downfall: A Former Champion Questions His True Potential

In the high-octane world of Formula 1, where every millisecond counts, Australian driver Oscar Piastri of McLaren has made headlines not for his victories, but for a shocking decline that has left fans and experts alike scratching their heads. What started as a promising season with the young talent positioned as the frontrunner for the world championship has spiraled into a perplexing crisis that has left many wondering if Piastri is still the driver they believed him to be.

The 2025 season kicked off with Piastri’s phenomenal performance, showcasing his prowess as he dominated the early races. However, after the summer break, the narrative took a drastic turn. With Max Verstappen clawing back points and his teammate Lando Norris overtaking him, Piastri found himself tumbling down the leaderboard, ultimately finishing a disappointing third behind the two rivals.

Romain Grosjean, the former F1 driver, weighed in on this unexpected downturn during an interview with beIN Sports, expressing his bewilderment over Piastri’s lackluster performances post-Monza. “Oscar Piastri is the one I don’t understand this year,” Grosjean stated emphatically. “Before the summer break, he was incredibly strong, but after Monza, for four or five races, it seemed like his cousin was driving instead!” This striking metaphor highlights the stark contrast between Piastri’s previous form and his recent struggles.

However, there is a glimmer of hope. After a disheartening stretch, Piastri showed signs of resurgence during the Qatar Grand Prix, once again proving he could be the fastest on the track and clinching pole position. Although he did not win the race, his performance marked a much-needed return to form. Grosjean noted, “He was back and looked solid in Abu Dhabi too, but by then, he had lost too much ground.”

Despite the disappointing turn of events, Grosjean remains optimistic about Piastri’s future in Formula 1. “He is still very young, and he’s only been in F1 for a few years,” he asserted. “He has shown a lot of positive traits and has much to offer. When you have a 34-point lead and end up with a 13-point deficit, it’s not what you expect, but he will learn from this experience.”

Grosjean believes that if Piastri can harness his previous strengths and rectify the issues that have plagued him, he has the potential to rise to the top and achieve his dream of being a world champion. “He has demonstrated that there were moments when he wasn’t at the level he aspired to, but if he can replicate what he does well and solve his problems, he will be a world champion,” Grosjean confidently concluded.

As the dust settles on a tumultuous season, the racing world watches with bated breath to see if Oscar Piastri can reclaim his place among the elite. Will he bounce back from this crisis and fulfill the immense potential that once seemed destined for greatness? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear: the road to redemption is fraught with challenges, and Piastri must navigate them with the skill and determination that first brought him into the spotlight.
