Grégoire Saucy joins McLaren Driver Development Programme: a thrilling new chapter begins!

McLaren Shakes Up the Racing World: Grégoire Saucy Joins as Development Driver for 2026!

In a thrilling move that is set to send shockwaves through the racing community, McLaren has officially unveiled Grégoire Saucy as its new Development Driver for the upcoming 2026 season! This 26-year-old Swiss sensation is stepping into the spotlight just as the Formula 1 world gears up for an electrifying championship run.

But wait, there's more! This announcement comes hot on the heels of Mercedes’ own development driver reveal, showcasing a fierce competition for talent in the motorsport arena. As the stakes get higher, McLaren has wasted no time in securing its place among the elite by adding Saucy to an already impressive roster of rising stars, including Christian Costoya, Ella Häkkinen, Pato O’Ward, and more. Notably, the team has also welcomed two Italian talents, Matteo De Palo and Leonardo Fornaroli, the reigning Formula 2 champion.

Saucy’s career trajectory has been nothing short of meteoric. After clinching the title in the Formula Regional European Championship in 2021, he quickly ascended the ranks, competing in Formula 3 for two seasons before making his mark in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with United Autosports, piloting the formidable McLaren 720S in the LMGT3 category. Now, as he embarks on this new chapter, he is set to compete in the 2026 European Le Mans Series LMP2 and participate in select IMSA tests, all while honing his skills with McLaren.

Excitement radiates from Saucy, who expressed his enthusiasm for this new role: “I am truly thrilled to be part of the McLaren Driver Development Programme. The support and opportunities this program provides are invaluable as I continue my journey in every aspect of my racing career. It’s a fantastic environment, and I can’t wait to work with the incredible McLaren team. My heartfelt thanks to Zak Brown and Alessandro Pier Guidi for this opportunity.”

This bold signing has been met with enthusiasm from McLaren's Chief Business Affairs Officer, Alessandro Alunni Bravi, who stated, “McLaren Racing is delighted to welcome Grégoire Saucy to our Driver Development Programme. Grégoire has impressed across various racing categories, laying a solid foundation for his growth within our pathways. We eagerly anticipate witnessing his progress this year in endurance racing and testing.”

As the countdown to the 2026 season begins, all eyes will be on McLaren and its latest recruit. Grégoire Saucy's journey is only just beginning, and fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the high-octane action that lies ahead. Buckle up—this season promises to be nothing short of spectacular!
