Volvo Cars announced this Wednesday the expansion of its partnership with Google, which will now provide its artificial intelligence assistant, Gemini, in the Swedish brand’s vehicles.
Volvo thus becomes the first automotive brand to receive this technology, and additionally, Volvo models will now serve as one of Google’s reference hardware platforms for the future development of Android Automotive.
With the upcoming launch of Google Gemini in the vehicle, drivers of Volvo models with integrated Google will be among the first to benefit from the power of the latest Artificial Intelligence technology.
In this way, Gemini in the vehicle will be able to better understand the driver’s needs while driving, through natural interactions, allowing, for example, to create voice messages, translate them into another language before sending, consult the vehicle’s manual, or obtain detailed information about the destination. This more intuitive interaction could reduce the cognitive load on the driver, promoting greater focus on the road and decreasing potential distractions.
This collaboration will allow Volvo Cars and Google to jointly innovate in new connected experiences, ensuring that Volvo drivers will be among the first to enjoy the latest features and performance improvements. At the same time, it will accelerate the advancement of automotive connectivity across the industry and for drivers around the world.
“We strive to offer people-centered technology, and providing an exceptional customer experience is an essential part of that commitment. Through this partnership with Google, we are able to bring the latest features of the consumer technology ecosystem to our products, firsthand. With this expansion, we are collaborating on cutting-edge solutions that shape the future of connected cars.”, said Alwin Bakkenes, Volvo Cars, Head of Global Software Engineering.
