More than 8,600 units of the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks are facing a potential fuel pump issue. The problem lies with the fuel pump lock ring, which may not be fully locked. Plastic Omnium, the supplier of the fuel tank assembly, discovered the loose ring condition and promptly informed General Motors on March 18, 2024. The affected trucks were produced between February 20 and May 9, 2024.
The fuel tank in question has a capacity of 21.4 gallons or 81 liters. It is used for both the Colorado and Canyon models, which feature a single cabin-wheelbase combination. These mid-size trucks come with crew cabs attached to a frame with a 131.4-inch wheelbase.
To address the issue, Plastic Omnium and General Motors have initiated containment efforts at their production facilities. Dealers have been instructed to inspect and secure the lock ring as necessary. However, owner notifications will not be sent out until August 13 or later.

The Colorado and Canyon models come with a starting price of $29,500 and $36,000, respectively, excluding destination charges. They are equipped with 2.7-liter turbo I4 engines and feature an eight-speed transmission from the Hydra-Matic 8L family. The most capable off-road versions are the Colorado ZR2 Bison and Canyon AT4X AEV Edition, while the maximum towing and payload capacities are 7,700 and 1,710 pounds, respectively.
