Germany fined tire manufacturer Continental €100 million for negligence in delivering software for calculating and controlling VW’s Diesel engines.
In 2020, authorities conducted searches at Continental’s factories due to suspicions that the group may have been complicit in the “Dieselgate” case.
The process dates back to 2015, when VW admitted to tampering with 11 million vehicles with Diesel engines, hiding the true level of their emissions.
Former VW CEO Martin Winterkorn will stand trial in September, while former Audi CEO Rupert Standler was sentenced in June to 21 months in prison and a fine of €1.1 million, with an appeal against this sentence.
In a statement, Continental has already ensured that it is “fully cooperating” with the authorities and will not appeal the decision.
