George Russell: ‘Mostrámos sinais de ter um ritmo forte em alguns momentos’

George Russell will start from the eighth position in the Mexican Grand Prix of Formula 1. It was far from a satisfactory result for the Mercedes driver, who knows that it will not be an easy race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

The British driver described a somewhat confusing scenario regarding the performance of the car and explained that the strategy adopted for the last laps did not have the desired effects: ‘It was a shame to finish eighth because we showed signs of having a strong pace at some moments, but we didn’t perform when it mattered. We lacked consistency – some sequences of laps were strong, others were not, so it was a confusing picture. On the last outing, we had a set of new tires and tried something different on the out lap, and it didn’t work and the tires weren’t in the window’.

Despite being aware of the difficult task ahead, Russell hopes to make progress in Sunday’s race: ‘Starting from eighth will be tough – the brakes will need management and the temperatures of the power unit are always a challenge. We came here with the expectation of being competitive, and I hope we can progress in the race, but it won’t be easy’.
