George Russell slams F1 rivals for trying to sabotage Mercedes’ success: a fierce defense

George Russell Unleashes Fury on F1 Rivals: “It's Not Right!”

In a fiery display of competitive spirit, George Russell has launched a scathing critique against rival Formula 1 teams, accusing them of conspiring to sabotage Mercedes at the outset of the 2026 season. The Brackley-based powerhouse has roared into the new campaign with an impressive string of 1-2 finishes in the first two races, sending shockwaves through the paddock. Yet, this success has not come without its share of controversy and scrutiny, particularly surrounding the contentious compression ratio debate that has captivated headlines leading up to the season.

The FIA has mandated that Mercedes must implement changes to its engine starting June 1, raising eyebrows and questions from other teams who seem eager to keep the champions in check. Adding fuel to the fire, the team faced inquiries about its front wing performance following the race in China, only for Mercedes to clarify that any unusual movements were not a result of intentional engineering, but rather an unforeseen hiccup in their setup.

When asked if he feels Mercedes has become a target for other teams, Russell didn’t hold back, stating, “That's just how sport goes, to be honest. That has always been the case. We have worked so hard to get ourselves in this position, and the best team should come out on top.” He acknowledged that for four long years, Mercedes has endured a struggle while two rival teams dominated the championship. “Just because we're back on top, I don't think it's quite right that everybody is trying to slow us down, especially when you’re only two races in.”

As the season unfolds, Russell remains acutely aware of the looming threat of development from other teams. The drastic regulatory changes this year have opened a vast landscape for innovation and improvement, giving power unit manufacturers a golden opportunity to level the playing field through the Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) system. While Mercedes currently basks in its lead position, Russell recognizes the precarious nature of F1 competition.

“It’s a big old season, so things will change. We’ve already seen Red Bull is overweight, some things we saw in the press last week. McLaren hasn’t brought an upgrade to the car; they're still running their Bahrain package,” he pointed out. “We shouldn't forget these things. We do have an advantage right now, but I think we've just really hit the ground running and done a great job. We hope it continues. But there is no guarantee.”

As the tension escalates among F1 teams, Russell’s bold declarations serve as a rallying cry for Mercedes, and a stark warning to their competitors: the battle for supremacy in Formula 1 is far from over, and the season is only just beginning!
