Mercedes F1 Sensation George Russell Decodes Mysterious Team Radio Message
The Formula 1 world was left puzzled by Mercedes superstar George Russell’s cryptic team radio communication ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix. The 27-year-old driver has been dominating the tracks in Suzuka, showcasing his talent by securing top positions in practice sessions and outqualifying his teammate Kimi Antonelli to secure fifth place on the grid.
Mercedes, with Russell and Antonelli at the helm, has emerged as a surprising force this season, currently sitting in second place in the constructors’ standings. However, during the first practice session in Japan, Russell’s comments over the team radio raised eyebrows due to their puzzling nature.
Russell’s assessment of his car’s performance included the peculiar statement, “Yeah, I feel pretty donkey, but I don’t know why… I’m sliding the rear quite a lot.” This unusual choice of words sparked confusion among fans and even prompted Mercedes to address the situation on social media.
In a video shared on Mercedes’ social media platform, Russell clarified his remark, stating, “I actually said ‘it feels donkey.’ Donkey means slow, like donkeys are not fast animals and it’s something that I used to say in the go-karting days when the engine wasn’t performing very well.”
The British driver further explained, “It’s like ‘oh I’ve got a donkey in the back, but then it just sort of, yeah it’s been a terminology that I’ve used before, like it just feels a bit slow.”
George Russell’s revelation sheds light on the mysterious radio message that had the F1 community abuzz. As the Japanese Grand Prix unfolds, all eyes will be on Russell and Mercedes as they aim to maintain their impressive form on the track.
